N4 with Virtual DJ
Can someone tell me how I set up Numark N4 with Virtual DJ? When I used the mixtrack pro it was just to plug it in, but with the N4 it ́s not working..

1Here's the beginning to the setup to 7.0.5.
1. In the software click the CONFIG button
2. Change the output option to SINGLE OUTPUT
3. Change your Sound Card option to ASIO
4. Change the dropedown menu to the right of your sound card selection to ASIO4ALL v2
5. Click Apply
6. Click ASIO config
7. Uncheck your your current sound card selection and choose the N4
8. Click the red X to close this window
9. Change your Outputs setting to HEADPHONES
10.Click Apply

Ryan Dungan May 13, 2012 09:49i have dv6 as well and i have difficulties with the asio4all progam as well...when you start your software does it pop up with a message saying not enough channels etc.? if so what seems to work is before you start the software unplug the n4 and exit all programs and if you really want to be thorough restart your comp. then plug in/turn on the n4 and start the software and it should automatically start the ASIO.EditDeleteRemove

You need version 705b in order for it to work. If you have a legit version you can upgrade from the Virtual DJ site.
However... I've had to tweak my mappings as I wasn't happy with the stock settings. -

1i already have that version installed. my computer is recognizing the n4 as a usb device but im having problems with headphone cue. i cant listen to a song on my headphones without it also playing in the speakers.

1when i move the crossfader on the n4 it moves on the screen but i still hear both tracks no matter what side the crossfader is on comming through my speakers. what is the problem here?

ok i got that fixed now the cue buttons on the headphones part makes the sound go from left to right in the speakers.
i cant cue correctly. -

I had same issues with my N4. ran through same steps from J.Sandeen had posted.still no fix i proceeded to contact Virtual Dj staff,through remote assist to my computer ended up having to activate x fader buttons 1@3 on left channel and 2@4 on right channel problem solved.wondering if i start doing video mixing what do i do now?-
Use the shift button to control video fader. Without shift the buttons assign the decks to the fader.

ok i had to reinstall vdj. now when i try to do the step by step process that J Sandeen wrote, ASIO isnt even an option for a soundcard!! whats up with that? It worked once before!!

The volume control for main volume doesn't change the volume in Virtual DJ (this is main volume and not per deck or channel volume). I understand that this is a hardware mixer as well as a midi controller but the headphone cue and mixer knobs are mapped and work. Do you know why the main volume one doesn't? Is this something that can be enabled through a custom mapping? -

I'm having trouble getting the N4 working with Virtual DJ pro. I have version 7.0.5b and I've configured the sound setup as per the 10 steps above. I can control the headphone volume and master volume via the controller but this isn't actually controlling the software, just adjusting the volume through my speakers and headphones. No control on the N4 make controls Virtual DJ at all.
On the mappers tab in the settings the N4 isn't showing as a connected device... In my computer's device settings I can see a new USB Composite device whenever I connect the N4, but any ideas on how to get Virtual DJ to recognise the N4 as being connected?- view 4 more comments

Ok it appears that there is some confusion with version numbers etc...
You need to run VDJ 7.0.5b (b380 or higher).
If you have 7.0.5 (b370), the N4 won't work.
The LE edition is (b384)) I think.
(b380) has issues but still works where as (b384) is more refined.
The next version of VDJ will be 8. This is a new build from scratch.
Copying mappers won't make a difference as the support for the N4 is built into the software. You can't copy a file or anything else to get it to work with any version below 7.0.5b (b380). -

Hi all,
I just purchased the N4 Saturday, having issues setting the sound card up. I follow the configure set up but when i go to output headphones i get error message. I am a pro user of Virtual Dj. The stange thing is when i use advance config i get sound but nothing from my cueing head phones. What am i doing wrong.

Sounds like you haven't configured ASIO4ALL properly. Read J Sandeen's comments at the top about configuring it and see if it makes a difference. Also go into the ASIO4ALL app and make sure the N4 is listed and set as the default device there.

So do you have no output at all or its just max volume the whole time? Does the both knob work? Are you plugged into the right output?
Give us a call if you feel the N4 in defective.

I have output. If I turn the master volume up the sound level rises. However in Virtual DJ the master volume doesn't move in the GUI. If I use my mouse to rotate it, the volume increases some more. I was under the assumption that the volume would be controlled completely by the N4. What I do out of habit now is turn the master volume up all the way in VirtualDJ and then use the rotary knob to control the output. What I think is wrong is having to control the volume twice if you understand where on the Cue Mix & Volume I don't, they just work as expect.

having problems J help! all tracks play through all decks, crossfader seems ineffective and sync 1 button ineffective, help!-
Did you assign the crossfader properly with the buttons numbered 1-4 on each side of it? I use 1 & 3 for left and 2 & 4 for right.

Yes you do. It should be on the CD that comes with the N4. If not then Google for the download link.

I am having the same issues, just purchased n4, please help. I appear to have latest version ... Went VDJ website and downloaded software again also.
First Issue: there's very little sound actually coming out of the N4 to my receiver & Speakers
Second Issue: Master Volume not controlled by n4 as described above
Third issue: after electing to trial the upgrade to PRO version, can't cue sound to headphones and have no control through N4
I am on a mac and have just installed ASIO, it still doesn't appear in the config screen in VDJ
PS - now I am getting sound out of the headphones as if it was the master output!

i have found out of my problem.
the cd that install virtuel dj, also has the driver for the N4..
so you need to open the cd, and select the aiso install folder..
that worked for me. :) -

well im not sure why but my software reverted back to the le edition after i clicked on the try pro version and the headphones cue is working now, so there might have something wrong with the settings in the pro version but that seemed to be the problem but its fixed now

I have a problem with N4 controller. The thing is the I can't control channels 3 & 4 . The 3&4 faders, EQ and gain does not respond. Only channels 1&2 work, i can use d perfectly. One interesting thing is that when i press the deck control button to switch between 1 & 3 and 2 & 4 I can use the faders for 1&2 to control 3&4, I can even see it one the screen that am adjusting 3&4.
Its a really difficult problem to explain, i don't know if the setting are wrong (i don't think so because I use the same as the one posted above ) or the controller is working. I need help please!! -

did you make sure the inputs were on pc and not line the switches are on the front of the controller and there is an indicator led

1just a suggestion it may or may not work, go to the numark website and get the mapper for virtual dj they have it on the product site and reset it. and also look at @berts post with @acwh79's reply for the correct version of vdj 7 im saying that because your video says (b342) hope it helps

Yes you were right. I went back and use the LE version, I downloaded the latest version from virtual dj. I have version 7.05b [b384]. Now everything works including all 4 channel. I guess I have to buy the Pro version again. Thank You everyone who help :)

When I attempt to configure asio4all, n4 does not come up as an option for sound card choice. Downloaded virtual dj and asio4all from CD, but does work. No head phones or cross fader. Please help.

Does the USB light on the N4 light up when it's connected? What OS are you using? If it's Windows, can you see the device in the Device Manager?

Can someone help me, I'm pretty new to this, I cant seem to cue the next track in through my headphones, in other words I cant listen to the track on deck 2 through my headphones when something is playing through the master volume on deck one. Can anyone give ,e a hand with how to try and sort this out?

OK, starting with the basics, have you made sure the cue button for the channel that you want to hear is lit? If it's not lit up and it's not responding when you press it then there could be a fault with the unit.

Yea, so on deck one I have a track playing, the cue button above the line fader is lit, lin fader fully up, and cross fader to the side the track is playing. I load another song up on deck 2, and I want to be able to hear what is playing on deck 2 just through my headphones and not through the master output, independently of the track playing on deck 1. The cue button above deck 2 is lit, and the line fader is up, and the cue volume is on cue, not master, but I cant hear anything though my headphones.
So basically all I'm after is previewing the track playing on deck 2 through my headphones, so I can mix properly.

Right so now I have selected single output, changed the sound card to ASIO, clicked the ASIO config, changed the sound card from the existing one to the N4, clicked the red x, and now when I click apply, it says there are not enough channels for ASIO, and it wont play anything at all now!

You need to set to 'Headphones'. If you've got it set to Single output then that's your problem.
Set your ASIO channels to either 512 or 256. The lower the number the more taxing it is on your system. I think the default is 512. You can configure this in the ASIO4ALL control panel. -

Ok, so it did work, then I had to close virtual DJ. So I opened it again, the config was all the same, Set the channels to 512, and it once again says there are not enough channels. I've bumped it all the way up to a couple of 1000, but it just keeps saying not enough channels.
I'm so sorry to keep asking, but I'm just about ready to throw it out the window! -

Try updating to the latest version of ASIO4ALL. You'll have to Google the link as I'm on the train!

Just following on, my settings on my laptop are ASIO4ALL v2.10. Buffer size is 512 samples. Everything else is default.
In VDJ's control panel, make sure the Ultra latency ASIO box is ticked... -

I have the numark mixdeck and it will not recognize the virtual dj le i have installed on my MAC.. even though my MAC recognizes the mixdeck...what should I do?

For those of you having issues with asio drivers and config, here is an alternative.
Click config
Sound setup tab
Change outputs to advanced config
Click advanced config
Hit +
Select master
Select speakers (4-n4)
Select output 1&2
Hit + again
Select headphones
Select speakers (4-n4)
Select output 3&4
Click apply -

Also the master, booth, and headphone volume are NOT midi. They are part of the controllers internal preamp. Virtual dj le and free edition will not work with the n4 unless it is the copy that came with the n4. And while asio can have lower latency. Setting up without it produces better sound quality. So unless you scratch a lot don't bother with asio. Just use the setup listed above. Also if you run anything else in the background (ableton, show presenter, etc.) Will not function while asio is active.
