I’m Very mad

NS7III Displays and Virtual DJ Support

NS7 III dashboard firmware update 1.5 locks down the screens so they only work with Serato. They use to work with Virtual DJ until I updated the firmware. I read about the update release notes and it said:

"The update adds BPM, key or time column view, and Beatgrinds. This essentially turns the NS7II Display into a Dashboard."

No where in there does it say that the firmware will lock the displays down for use ONLY with Serato. Locking my working screens down for use only with Serato and not telling me ahead of time in the release notes is a VERY dirty trick. Please help me revert the Firmware.

  • Hello,

    Thanks for posting.

No, this isn't a trick. The Dashboard/NS7III are not, and have not yet been officially supported for use with Virtual DJ since they've been released. Both products have always been marketed as a Serato DJ Accessory and Serato DJ product, respectively. Again, we do not officially support the NS7III or Dashboard with Virtual DJ at this time. However, I'll be happy to submit this as a feature request to my development team for you. Please stay tuned to www.numark.com for all future updates and announcements, or consider signing up for our newsletter.

  • The bulk data format will have changed to support the additional info which means that virtual DJ will now be transmitting a format that is not supported. When VDJ8 works with the numark dashboard I'd expect an update that supports the new NS7III firmware.

I have a Numark NV which I use with Virtual DJ (which I prefer to serato) and I expect the same thing will happen when the NV gets a similar firmware update. Unfortunately it's just one of those things and we'll just have to wait for Virtual DJ to catch-up.

@Bill, thanks for the response. I keep hearing that same answer.

The problem is that I bought it because it did work. I don't really care that it is not supported. You intentionally crippled the functionality by locking down the screens. That is not playing fair and certainly not the way you want to treat you loyal Numark customers.

I forgot to reply to this comment "Both products have always been marketed as a Serato DJ Accessory and Serato DJ product,"

I disagree, Both left and right screens said "Numark" from the factory. The firmware changed the right screen to now say Serato.

I'm glad I stumbled across this post as, like many Numark NV owners, I've been patiently waiting for the firmware update to provide us with the stuff featured in the original promos but I hadn't considered it may "break" Virtual DJ. Now I guess I'll be leaving any new firmware alone for a while...

@DHoude, I was going to suggest the Virtual DJ forums but I've now seen your posts on there. Hopefully the team gets somewhere with this for both of us.

Speaking as an owner of a Numark NV, 2x Numark V7s and Virtual Vinyl, all in use with Virtual DJ only, I will think twice before purchasing any new Numark (or Denon) kit with the historic lack of support shown.

@Bill. As a customer I don't know if commercial agreements with Serato prevent you from releasing the new data formats to support the screens but surely where Numark can help is by allowing or even assisting NS7III and NS7II Display owners to revert the firmware back so they can continue to use the product as they did before?

    My point 100%

"where Numark can help is by allowing or even assisting NS7III and NS7II Display owners to revert the firmware back so they can continue to use the product as they did before?"

Also @Bill, your adds say Serato enabled, NOT Serato Exclusive or Only

Screens Before FW update - Numark on both screens

Screens After FW update - Note Serato on right screen

Being a 100% video DJ and owning Serato Video, it is horrible for Windows. FPS wise, jitter, screen tearing. Just unusable.

I can use VDJ perfectly fine, as well as Resolume and Spout. ADK laptop Win7-10, 16 gig ram, 3 internal SSDs, 3.2 ghz i7 4th gen, NVIDIA 870m 6 gig ram. It is not the machine.. I just can't use Serato to do what I do. Please do not lock us down or we will choose another brand. I too have other Numark gear and this may be my last.

This really is far from Answered. That's it Numark? I don't intend to just go away peacefully with "we don't support VDJ".

  • I’m disgusted
I just bought my NS7III a few days ago... and as others have pointed out the release notes of the firmware said nothing of locking out the displays from other DJ software... this NS7III is going back to Guitar Center.

Numark I used to like you... I'm also a Video DJ and will never use Serato to do such (for reasons other poster mentions)... I guess I'll go look into more modern hardware that will support me in my choice of software (Denon or Pioneer I suppose).

Numark, I sure hope the Serato deal you guys have worked out with them is worth losing a bunch of customers over, or better yet, you see the error of your ways - wouldn't you want the premier Video DJ software to work with your premier controller?

  • I’m relieved
So glad I didn't purchase that NS7iii. Last I had heard on the VDJ boards, it was working, so before hitting 'buy' on musiciansfriend.com, I decided to look quick to see if there were any bugs, and then I saw the thread about this firmware bug that was introduced. So I then decided to check if Numark had any plans of fixing the bug, only to find out that it was a planned bug, which implies that they won't be fixing it.
My guess is that Serato wasn't happy just collecting their tax on sales of this controller to VDJ users, they wanted to also sabotage those users. Numark was once a very respectable brand, and I still like their innovation, just not some of the decisions they make. The funny part is that Numark's support people above think we are asking them to support VirtualDJ, when we are really just asking that they let VDJ support themselves without being sabotaged. They prefer appeasement of Serato over getting current customers to upgrade to latest hardware. I will keep my NS7 and V7 and even my old Numark turntable, but won't be purchasing any more Numark equipment until I feel I can trust them again.
Hopefully, enough potential customers will make enough noise to get Numark to notice. I will wait until that time to make my purchase.
I am just glad I didn't have to go through the hassle of buying and returning the NS7iii like most other VDJ users. Dodged a $1500 bullet ;)

  • I’m hopeful but doubtful
BTW, please let me know if this capability is ever restored. Assuming I haven't already upgraded to something else, I will buy an NS7iii that day, and I know of several other people in the same boat.
Denon MCX8000 looks almost as good and similar price, but I would really prefer the moving vinyl platters. I have also been reading that Denon is almost as much of a puppet for Serato as Numark lately anyway.
Can Numark support give me any indication of whether I should hold off on buying something else? Is there any hope of even just a firmware revert functionality on the horizon? Should I buy an NS7iii anyway and then just return it if it has the faulty firmware and there is no fix by then?

    Thanks!

  • I’m Horrible business practices!
Hope your deal was worth losing your customer's trust for less than 2 months of Serato exclusivity. What you did is not right and you show it in your silence Numark!

Now we can't trust a single update you put out. I can't wait for the day I sell this thing. Thanks for doing absolutely NOTHING to help your loyal users who bought your flagship controller because it worked, only to have that ripped away with ZERO warning in release notes or support and a cold "we don't support VDJ" response!

I hope I have made my point and I hope this thread has some impact on your future decisions. I don't like to yell or use foul language like some here. But you have no idea the absolute disgust I have for your brand and support!

  • Hey Everyone,

We understand that this firmware update has inconvenienced some of our Virtual DJ users. The features that were added by this update were in high-demand by NS7III users and were the primary focus during development. In an effort to implement these improvements, it appears that any possible communication between the NS7III displays and Virtual DJ was unintentionally broken.

Virtual DJ is not natively supported for the NS7III and this was not considered during the update.

We understand this isn’t ideal. Serato DJ should be used with the NS7III displays for full display support, but I’m more than happy to make sure the Numark team is fully aware of the demand for Virtual DJ support.

  • @ Bill, Nobody believes you "accidentally" added encryption and lock downs while adding useful data fields to the Dashboard.

You fulfilled your contract with Serato and got 2 months of Serato exclusivity. That exclusivity is over now (thanks to VDJ working around it) and Numark/you did nothing to earn our trust Bill. You lost a customer for life here and I have made sure to spread my experience to potential buyers in person, social media and forums. Pointing them to this thread to see your poor excuse for support.

I am nobody, but I hope users read this thread and strongly consider how stubborn Numark has been and unwilling to support customers of your flagship product. It's not like I am expecting the world here for a $150 controller. I bought a $1500 controller and your $350 case and got ZERO support. Only excuses..
